I am a boomer woman still interested in pushing for social justice for women. We are socialized to limit ourselves and to accept limits imposed by others. Many younger women have no idea what our lives were like even a few decades ago. That should tell us that change is possible. We know it is still needed. Keep pushing. See my artwork.
------------------------------------------ My ethical will, a.k.a. letter from the grave, is included in My Words Are Gonna Linger: The Art of Personal History, published by the Association of Personal Historians and edited by Paula Stallings Yost and my writing mentor Pat McNees. Purchase it here. Pat teaches a very unusual class at the Writer's Center in Bethesda, MD, on writing life stories and legacy letters. ------------------------------------------ Consider buying my novel Vilnius Diary: Old Europe. Vilnius is just recovering from Soviet occupation. A scientist travels to the country of his parents and digs into the stories and numbers of the Holocaust and Gulag. His personal world begins to fall apart. Things happen that he cannot explain. Someone is leaving strange drawings in his apartment. Why? A story of travel, family, and loss. Art by Tadas Gutauskas (www.tadasgutauskas.lt) + photo illustrations. Cover design by Holly Russell (www.hrphotographics.com). © 2007 Ruta Sevo. English. Printed in the United States. ------------------------------------------ A short memoir by Jonas Fledzinskas, about his life in Lithuania during the first half of the 20th Century. Translated from Lithuanian by Ruta Pempe Sevo (his grand-daughter) with Vytautas Fledzinskas (his son) and Sophie Pempe (his daughter). Includes family photos, a life timeline, family trees, and short historical background.
A report describing extension services that bring knowledge about issues and good practices to increase women in science and engineering to particular audiences, such as after-school programs or engineering departments.
------------------------------------------ A memo listing five agendas considered to be the best investment at this time to increase the numbers of girls and women in S&E education. A list of 30 were prioritized by national leaders with input from hundreds of experts.
------------------------------------------ Within a series of papers that summarize research for researchers on girls and women in S&E education, called Applying Research to Practice, are my pieces: pending final review:
------------------------------------------ See political satire about all the bad things that happen to women at Molly and Dollop: Conversations with the Master. Warning - this is black humor and not suitable for the young, the innocent, or the sensitive. ------------------------------------------ I am on Facebook and LinkedIn. My email is ruta @ momox.org. I consult on work related to women in science and engineering (drafting requests for funding, editing reports, writing reports, talks, planning future directions). Resume available on request. See the LinkedIn network "STEM Education, Girls and Women: Consultants."
